March 31, 2026 | Women's Golf
JOHNS CREEK, Ga. – No. 19/20 Tennessee's Sophie Christopher took home individual medalist honors on Tuesday at the Georgia State Invitational, notching the first individual victory of her collegiate career.
As one of two Lady Vols competing individually in the event, Christopher finished atop an 88-golfer field with a 5-under-par 54-hole score, setting a new career low. One of just three golfers to finish the tournament under par, the sophomore closed with a two-stroke victory over a pair of golfers tied for second place at 3-under-par.
Christopher set the tone in her opening round of the tournament on Monday, posting a career-best score to par with a 4-under-par 68 in round one. She carried that momentum into the second 18 of the day on Monday, carding a 2-under-par 70 in round two to sit tied for the lead ahead of round three. Christopher was able to fend off the competition with a 1-over-par 73 in Tuesday's third and final round.
The Germantown, Tennessee native is the third different Lady Vol to earn individual medalist honors in a tournament this spring. Kyra Van Kan opened the slate with a dominant win at the Paradise Invitational, while Madison Messimer was victorious at the Chris Banister Golf Classic in March.
The Tennessee women's golf team will return to action on Monday, April 6, at the Huntington Bank Collegiate in Dallas.
