#19/20 Lady Vols Tied for Fourth Through 36 Holes of Clemson Invitational

SUNSET, S.C. – The No. 19/20 Tennessee women's golf team continued the Clemson Invitational on Saturday, with round two contested at The Reserve at Lake Keowee.
On a day when the course played difficultly, Tennessee fired a 2-over-par 290 to rise to a tie for fourth place at 2-over-par overall. No. 4 Florida holds a four-stroke lead at 11-under-par after posting the only team score under par in round two. No. 8 Arkansas is in second place at 7-under-par, while No. 15 Vanderbilt rounds out the top three at 6-under-par. Virginia Tech is tied with the Lady Vols for fourth place.
Kyra Van Kan recorded a six-stroke improvement to card Tennessee's best score of round two, closing with a 3-under-par 69. The sophomore posted a team-best five birdies on the day en route to her tenth career round in the 60s. After opening the tournament with a 3-over-par 75 during Friday's first round, Van Kan's strong second round brings her to even par overall, climbing 47 spots individually to a tie for 15th place in the field of 88.
Madison Messimer holds the Lady Vols' best 36-hole score at the Clemson Invitational. The prolific freshman closed the day with a 2-under-par 70 to improve to 2-under-par overall. Messimer tallied four birdies on her final nine holes to climb to a tie for eighth place with 18 holes to play. Vanderbilt's Lynn Lim holds a commanding individual lead at 9-under-par ahead of Sunday's final round.
Kaopan Thapasit finished an up-and-down day with a 3-over-par 75. The freshman from Thailand fired back-to-back birdies to open round two before bogey troubles in the middle of her round. Thapasit tallied consecutive birdies on hole No. 14 and 15 to salvage a solid score. She is tied for 22nd place at 2-over-par overall heading into round three on Sunday.
Manassanan Chotikabhukkana recorded Tennessee's final round countable toward the team total in round two. The senior closed the day with a 4-over-par 76 after tallying 14 pars and four bogeys. At 5-over-par through 36 holes, she is tied for 44th place.
The Lady Vols will wrap up the Clemson Invitational with round three on Sunday. The final round will be a shotgun start, set for 9:30 a.m. EST.
