THREE LADY VOLS CHOSEN TO USA SOFTBALL TEAM SELECTION CAMPS

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. When the USA Softball selection program kicks off this summer the Tennessee Lady Vol softball team will be well represented as junior Monica Abbott, junior Lindsay Schutzler and senior Sarah Fekete all reaped invitations to one of two prestigious selection camps to be held in Chula Vista, Calif.
UT's 6-3 hurler is one of 30 players who will tryout for the 2006 USA Softball Women's National Team that is set to participate in three events this year including the II World Cup of Softball (July 13-17), in Oklahoma City, Okla., the ISF Women's World Championships in Beijing, China (August 21- September 7) and the Japan Cup in Yokohama, Japan (November 13-20). The Salinas, Calif., native was a member of the prestigious national team during the inaugural World Cup of Softball in the summer of 2005, traveled to last year's Japan Cup and participated in a three-contest "Sendai Match" between the U.S. and Japanese squads. During Abbott's stint with the national team she registered victories from the circle over China and Japan. This year's tryout camp will be held at the Olympic Training Center from June 13-17.
Schutzler and Fekete are two of 27 players from 11 different universities across the country to have reaped nods to join the World University Games selection camp that will be held from June 9-11 in Chula Vista, Calif. For Fekete the invitation is her first to participate with USA Softball while Schutzler previously traveled with the USA Elite during the summer of 2005 to play in the Canada Cup in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada, and the Intercontinental Cup in Madrid, Spain. The Monterey, Calif., native was one of the team's standout players by hitting .456 (26-of-57) combined over the two events with a stellar .545 mark during the Intercontinental Cup to rate third on the squad.

The No. 4 Lady Vols are currently on the road in Starkville, Miss., to contest a three-game set against the Mississippi State Bulldogs over April 22-23. Sunday's final tilt will be shown live on Fox Sports Net South (Comcast Cable Channel 19) at 2 p.m. ET.
A total of 30 players have been selected to attend the Women's National Team Camp including the 26 member National Training Team selected back in September of last year. The invitees for the USA Softball Women's National Team Selection Camp are listed below:
