FORMER VOL GILDEA RUNS IN WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS

Former Tennessee cross country and distance runner Patrick Gildea finished 51st overall and second among Americans at the World Cross Country Championships, held Sunday morning in Fukuoka, Japan. Gildea lettered at Tennessee from 2002-2003, and still trains in Knoxville under Tennessee's head cross country and distance coach George Watts.
Gildea was beaten only by Ryan Hall from the United States, who finished 43rd. Gildea and Hall led the Americans to a 12th-place finish with 206 points. Kenya won the team-scored event with 24 points and Eritrea followed closely in second with 28 points.
