COLUMBUS, Ga. - Despite the best efforts of event organizers, Sunday's action at the NFCA Leadoff Classic has been cancelled due to Saturday's prolonged heavy rain and hazardous field conditions at the South Commons Complex in Columbus, Ga.
The No. 2 Tennessee Lady Vol softball team had been preparing to play as many as two games to wrap up the tournament on Sunday with match-ups scheduled against No. 14/16 Louisiana-Lafayette and No. 18 Nebraska. UT will complete its stay at the NFCA Leadoff Classic with victories over No. 25/22 Iowa (11-2, five inn.) and Florida State (1-0). The Big Orange remain undefeated in 2006 with a 10-0 overall record, marking the second-best opening in school history.
Tennessee will return to the diamond over March 3-5 in Fullerton, Calif., at the Worth Invitational. The Lady Vols will open play versus UC Davis at noon ET next Friday.
