CHRISTOPH, JEFFERS GAIN NSCAA/adidas SCHOLAR ALL-AMERICA HONORS

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Lady Vol senior co-captains Ali Christoph and Jenny Jeffers earned Women's College Scholar All-America Team accolades from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) and adidas. Christoph garnered a spot on the first team, while Jeffers made the third team.Christoph tied for the 2006 team lead with six assists while ranking third in points (18) and fourth in goals (six). The Columbus, Ohio, product finished her career as the Tennessee leader in games played and started with 93 of each while maintaining a 3.74 grade point average (GPA) in education. The midfielder ended her four-year run on Rocky Top ranking second in the record books with 10 career game-winning goals and 27 assists, tied for fourth with 67 points and knotted in eighth with 20 goals. The award is Christoph's fourth national honor this year and the third acknowledging her academics. She was earlier named the 2006 Southeastern Conference Co-Scholar-Athlete of the Year while also landing second-team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America honors.
The Lake Zurich, Ill., native Jeffers started 70 consecutive matches at defender for the Lady Vols, the fourth-longest streak in Tennessee history. Ranking sixth in career appearances (85) and tied for eighth in starts (72), Jeffers helped guide one of the SEC's best defensive units the past two seasons, allowing just over five shots on goal per match in 2006. A three-time member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll, Jeffers holds a 3.58 GPA in psychology. Jeffers was earlier named to the Top Drawer Soccer National Team of the Season second squad, a repeat of last year's pick.
National runner-up Notre Dame led all programs with three players making the first team.
Tennessee finished 2006 with a 12-7-4 record overall, extending the skein of NCAA Tournament appearances to six. The Lady Vols advanced to the program's fourth regional semifinal in five years before losing to eventual national champions North Carolina.
