Bobby Cameron defeated a ranked-opponent for the second straight day and Tennessee won eight of its 11 singles matches Saturday, as the team continued its solid fall at the Volunteer State Challenge on the UT Outdoor Varsity Courts.
Cameron has now defeated the two highest ranked singles player in the tournament. Cameron defeated Ryan Preston, ranked 28th, Friday and on Saturday morning, the UT junior swept past 32nd-ranked Andreas Siljestrom of Middle Tennessee 7-6, 7-6. Cameron, ranked 95th in the preseason singles poll, is now 5-0 against ranked players. Cameron defeated Memphis's Bobby Fischer in the afternoon to remain undefeated in the challenge.
Freshman Chris Racz won both of his singles matches to improve to 3-0 in the Volunteer State Challenge. The freshman from Philadelphia, defeated Joao Pailiello of Middle Tennessee 6-1, 6-3 in the morning and then defeated Memphis's Spencer Heflin, 6-0, 6-2 in the afternoon.
Adam Hubble is the third Vol undefeated in singles play. Hubble defeated Morgan Richard of Middle Tennessee and Amrit Narasimhan of Memphis to move to 8-2 this season in singles.
Davey Sandgren, battling an illness, defeated Charlie Ramsay of Memphis 6-2, 6-7,6-3. Sandgren is now 4-0 this season in three-set matches.
Derek Stephens dropped his first match of the day but rebounded with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Jimmy Khougassian of Memphis. Stephens is 10-3 this year in singles. The North Carolina natives 10 wins tie him with Bobby Cameron for second-most singles victories on the team.
Cameron and Hubble teamed up to defeat Vanderbilt's Evan Dufaux and Ryan Preston 8-4 in doubles. The UT tandem is undefeated in doubles.
The Vols finish the Volunteer State Challenge Sunday when they play singles against ETSU.
