TENNIS VOLS BLANK MEMPHIS TO OPEN 2007 SEASON

The Tennessee men's tennis team won its ninth consecutive season opener Friday afternoon with a 7-0 victory over Memphis at the Goodfriend Indoor Tennis Center.
"It was a great way to start the year," men's head coach Sam Winterbotham said. "I thought the guys competed very well and I look forward to seeing some more of the same."
The Vols (1-0 won all three doubles matches to take an early 1-0 lead. Adam Hubble and Ben Rogers defeated Charlie Ramsay and Jimmy Khougassian 8-3 at the No. 2 position. The nation's fifth-ranked double team of Bobby Cameron and Kaden Hensel clinched the point for UT with a 8-2 win over Amrit Narasimhan and Benedikt Fischer. Davey Sandgren and Johnny Thornton completed the sweep for UT with a 8-6 victory over Spencer Heflin and Garrison Pilant.
Rogers gave the Vols a 2-0 lead with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Charlie Ramsay at the No. 4 position. Rogers is 11-6 this season in singles.
Hensel extended Tennessee's lead to three with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Amrit Narasimhan.
Cameron, battling illness, clinched the Vols victory outlasting Benedikt Fischer 6-3, 7-6. Cameron, ranked 24th in singles, is 16-4 this season.
Tcherveniachki extended UT's lead with a 6-1, 7-6 victory at the No. 3 position over Jimmy Khougassian.
Sandgren competing in his first dual-match as a Vol, won 6-4, 6-2 over Garrison Pilant.
Derek Stephens completed the sweep with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Tezar Putra at the No. 6 position. Stephens has a team-best 17 victories this season.
Tennessee now leads the all-time series with Memphis 9-0.
Tennessee faces UT-Chattanooga at 7 p.m. Friday night to complete its season-opening doubleheader.
