TENNIS VOLS WIN OPENER OVER MICHIGAN STATE, 5-2

The Tennessee men's tennis team opened the 2006 season Saturday with a 5-2 win No. 73 Michigan State to win its seventh straight season opener.
The Vols started off by capturing the doubles point. Adam Hubble and Kiril Tcherveniachki defeated Michigan State's Michael Flowers and Joseph McWilliams 8-1 at the No. 2 spot. Bobby Cameron and Derek Stephens clinched the point for UT defeating John Allare and Scott Rasmussen 8-5 at the No. 3 slot.
Stephens appearing in his first dual-match as a Vol also won at the No. 3 position in singles. The freshman from Matthews, N.C., defeated McWilliams 7-5, 6-2 for his fourth victory in the 2006 season. Tcherveniachki defeated Adam Monich at the No. 2 position 6-3, 6-4. Martin, one of two senior's on this year's squad, defeated Flowers 7-6, 7-5 at the No. 5 slot.
Sophomore Kaden Hensel defeated Allare 6-2, 6-3 at the No. 4 position to round out the Volunteer victories.
The Vols are in action tomorrow against No. 17 Ohio State at 1 p.m.
