KAYLA LOCKABY NAMED TO ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT IV SOCCER TEAM

Lady Vol junior Kayla Lockaby (Hamilton, Ohio) was among 35 student-athletes selected to the 2003 Academic All-America All-District IV University Division Women's Soccer Team that was unveiled Thursday. An Academic All-Southeastern Conference choice majoring in marketing, the midfielder for Head Coach Angela Kelly's squad became the first Tennessee player chosen to the squad in the program's eight-year existence when she earned a berth on the second team.
A standout in the classroom, Lockaby has enjoyed another solid season for the nationally-ranked Lady Vols. She rates among the team leaders with 14 points on six goals and a pair of assists and has contributed match-winners against Richmond and fifth-ranked Florida. Lockaby was also chosen all-tournament at the First Tennessee Classic won by the hosts in September. She will help lead UT (14-4-1) against Ole Miss (14-4-2) in the semifinals of the 2003 SEC Tournament on Friday afternoon in Orange Beach, Ala.
This year's team was voted on by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) from District IV, which encompasses Alabama, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and Tennessee. To qualify, student-athletes must hold at least sophomore status, own a minimum grade-point average of 3.2 and be either a starter or key reserve for their team. The 11 student-athletes named to the District IV first team will appear on the national ballot for the Academic All-America Soccer Team, which will be announced in December.
