Co-Head Coaches Mike and Sonia Hahn-Patrick and the University of Tennessee Lady Vol tennis program announced the signing of two talented student-athletes to National Letters of Intent for the 2004-05 academic year. Joining the Lady Vols next season will be Bryce Marable and Daron Moore.
Marable, a native of Darien, Ill., has recorded top-five finishes at the state championships each year she has participated on the team. That stretch began with a fourth-place finish as a freshman and a fifth-place showing as a sophomore at Hinsdale South High School. After home schooling as a junior, Marable re-joined H.S.H.S. to post a runner-up state finish as a senior, while also leading her team to a second-place showing. Outside of high school, Marable reached the semifinals of the 2002 Eddie Herr International Junior Tennis Championships in Bradenton, Fla. In the classroom, she is a two-time recipient of her high school's academic excellence award.
"Bryce is a big hitter and is very competitive," the Patricks said. "We believe she has the determination to be an outstanding player for our team."
Moore, who hails from Studio City, Calif., has spent her prep years racking up honors at Campbell Hall School in North Hollywood, Calif. She has helped her high school team to league championships in each of her four years at C.H.S., while also leading the squad to the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) finals as a junior. Moore received all-league honors in each of her four seasons. According to Moore, one of the greatest thrills of her career was reaching the quarterfinals at the prestigious Ojai Valley Tournament in 2003. Away from the court, Moore has been named to her school's Headmaster's List for 10 semesters and is a member of the Cum Laude Society, which consists of the top eight percent of the class.
"Daron is an extremely athletic player," the Patricks said. "She will make an immediate impact in doubles for us, while she has a bright future in singles play as well."
