BIRMINGHAM, Ala.
The Southeastern Conference released its 2002 Women's Tennis Academic Honor Roll on Tuesday. Five student-athletes associated with the Tennessee women's tennis program made the list.
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must have a 3.0 grade point average for either the past year or for their career, be a sophomore or higher in academic classification and have 24 semester hours countable toward a degree. The 2002 SEC Women's Tennis Academic Honor Roll is based on grades from the 2000-01 academic calendar. A total of 56 student-athletes were named to the honor roll.
The Lady Vol tennis players to earn the honor were: junior Crystal Cleveland (Early Childhood Education), senior Alison Ojeda (Sport Management), senior Agnes Wiski (Psychology), senior student assistant coach Meiling Parks (Chinese), and former player Catherine Hall (Public Relations).
"Our program stresses the importance of balance in a student-athlete's life," said co-head coach Mike Patrick. "To have these players honored in this way, shows that we have succeeded in getting that message across. I am pleased to see that these individuals have put as much effort into the classroom as the expend on the court."
Tennessee will compete at the SEC Championships from April 18-21, as the fifth seed. The event will take place at the Sam Daniel and Maxcy Gregg Tennis Centers on the campus of South Carolina, with the Lady Vols meeting the # 12 Arkansas on Thursday at 2 p.m.
