
Handoyo Wins Again in Davis Cup Match

AUCKLAND, New Zealand-- Tennessee senior Peter Handoyo won Indonesia's second and final point Sunday in their 3-2 loss to New Zealand in the Oceania/Asia group of the Davis Cup. Handoyo, who defeated Alistair Hunt to capture Indonesia's first point Saturday, defeated New Zealand's Daniel Willman 7-5 6-3 Sunday to run his Davis Cup record to 4-0 all-time.
Handoyo will be returning to Knoxville this week to continue the spring season with the Volunteers. Handoyo was joined in Auckland by New Zealand native and Tennessee sophomore Simon Rea. Rea is a member of the New Zealand Davis Cup team, but did not compete against Indonesia.
Handoyo, who plays No. 1 singles for the Vols, recently won the 2002 SEC Indoor singles and doubles titles and returns to Knoxville with an 8-0 record on the season. Rea, who plays No. 4 for the Big Orange, returns with a 22-8 record.
The Vols will next be in action Saturday, Feb. 23, at home against ninth-ranked Duke. The Blue Devils defeated the Vols 4-1 Friday night in the first round of the National Team Indoor Championships. Admission to the match will be free.
