Gildea Named SEC Cross Country Athlete of the Week

Tennessee's Patrick Gildea earned SEC Cross Country Athlete of the Week honors after leading the Volunteers to their second team title of the season Saturday, a dominating 33-point effort at the Furman Invitational.
The senior from Holbrook, N.Y., took a career-best, runner-up finish in 25:27.5 to become the first Volunteer to lead the squad in two races this season. At the Indiana State Invitational the week before Gildea led Tennessee with a 25:05.4 timing, his best in two seasons at Tennessee.
Tennessee has posted its two best top-five spread times in the last three seasons the last two races with Gildea leading the Volunteer pack.
The Vols return to action Nov. 4 at the SEC Cross Country Championships in Gainesville, Fla.
