KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Thaydeus Holden hit a key 3-point shot and Ron Slay made four free throws down the stretch Monday as Tennessee rallied to beat Radford 72-66.
The Highlanders (4-8) led most of the game but faltered in the last 2{ minutes.
Radford led 64-59 with 5:42 to go, but Tennessee (5-3) made three straight baskets to take the lead for good.
Vincent Yarbrough made a free throw, Marcus Haislip scored and then Holden hit a 3-pointer to give the Vols a 65-64 lead with 2:42. Slay, who sat out most of the second half with four fouls, then made four straight free throws.
After Slay's free throws, the Vols missed five of their next six free throws, but Radford could only make two points the rest of the way.
Yarbrough led Tennessee in scoring with 20 points while Haislip had 14 and Jon Higgins and Holden had 11. Slay finished with six.
Correy Watkins scored 19 points for Radford, and Raymond Arrington added 16 and Andrey Savtchenko, whose defense under the basket kept the Vols off balance, had 15 before fouling out.
Behind most of the first half, Tennessee made a 14-2 run early in the second half to take its first lead since 7-6.
Yarbrough had two dunks and a 3-pointer, and Higgins capped the spurt with a 3 that put the Vols ahead 51-50 with 11:07 remaining.
The Vols trailed 38-30 at halftime and were down by as many as 11.
Yarbrough's steal and basket gave Tennessee a one-point lead early, but the Highlanders led most of the first half.
After Higgins made a 3-pointer to cut the lead to 24-20 with 7:46 left before halftime, Radford went on an 8-1 run over the next four minutes.
