- 2000-2001 Schedule
The Tennessee Lady Vol tennis team released its schedule for the 2000-01 campaign on Wednesday (July 12). The 20-match, nine-tournament schedule will challenge co-head coaches Mike Patrick and Sonia Hahn-Patrick's team as they strive to compete at the highest level.
The program will celebrate its 25th anniversary as they meet some of the elite teams in the nation. The Lady Vols have a number of strong non-conference matches in addition to their perennially tough Southeastern Conference schedule.
Coming off the heels of a berth in the third round of the NCAA Tournament, the Orange and White will face 14 teams which competed in the 2000 NCAA Tournament, including Illinois (Feb. 4), Middle Tennessee State (Feb. 23), Indiana (Feb. 25), Wake Forest (Mar. 2), Ohio State (Mar. 4), Louisiana State (Mar. 18), North Carolina (Mar. 21), Florida (Mar. 23), Notre Dame (Mar. 25), Vanderbilt (Mar. 31), Mississippi (April 1), Mississippi State (April 6), South Carolina (April 8), and defending national champion Georgia (April 13).
The squad hopes for some revenge on March 2 as they meet Wake Forest, the team that knocked the Orange and White out of the NCAA Tournament, at home. Twelve of the teams on the schedule finished the season ranked in the International Tennis Association's top 50, including Georgia (No. 1), Florida (No. 3), Wake Forest (No. 5), Notre Dame (No. 13), Mississippi (No. 18), South Carolina (No. 20), Louisiana State (No. 21), Kentucky (No. 33), Arkansas (No. 35), Mississippi State (No. 36), North Carolina (No. 42) and Indiana (No. 49). The Lady Vols ended the season ranked No. 17.
The Lady Vols will open their 25th season on September 22 when they participate in the Furman Fall Classic. Tennessee will play in six Fall tournaments to tune up for the Spring outing. The squad will return to Knoxville on October 6 to host the second annual St. Mary's Classic.
