Vols Fall to #1 South Carolina 14-3

Columbia, S.C. - Trey Dyson's grand slam in the fifth inning and a seven-run eighth inning lifted the No. 1 ranked South Carolina Gamecocks to a 14-3 victory over the Tennessee Volunteers.
Trailing 2-1 in the fifth inning, South Carolina loaded the bases on three straight singles with one-out before Dyson grooved a 1-0 Wyatt Allen pitch over the fence in right-center field for a 5-2 lead.
Dyson drove in five runs on the night, including a two-out single off the first base bag that scored Drew Meyer from second for a 1-0 Gamecock lead after one. Drew Meyer also went 4-for-4, while Brandon Peck went 3-for-4 with three RBI.
South Carolina improved to 48-6 and 23-5 in Southeastern Conference play. The Volunteers, who had their five-game winning streak snapped, fell to 40-21 and 10-16 in league action.
Kip Bouknight (15-0) improved on his NCAA-leading win total as he went the eight innings, allowing two runs on five hits with five strikeouts and one walk.
The Gamecocks added two more in the sixth in taking a 7-2 lead. A sacrifice fly by Brennan Dees and an infield single by Brandon Pack plated both runs.
Jeff Baumtrog's two-run home run put the Vols up 2-1 in the top of the second. Parker drew a walk with two outs off Bouknight before the red-hot Baumtrog delivered with his third blast of the season.
Jeff Christensen's second double of the night scored Kris Bennett who singled to lead off the eighth and closed the gap to 7-3.
The Gamecocks broke the game wide open with seven runs in the eighth off reliever Jordan DeJong. Two-run doubles by Brandon Pack, Tripp Kelly and Nate Janowicz highlighted the seven-run outburst as South Carolina extended its lead to 14-3.
Allen (4-3) suffered the loss for Tennessee after allowing seven runs on eight hits in 5 2/3 innings with six strikeouts and five walks.
Game two of the three-game series will be Saturday at 4 p.m. EDT.
