A native of Indianapolis, Indiana, Puntarelli attended Roncalli High School where he was a four-year volleyball standout. He went on to coach six seasons at RHS, helping the team reach three state runners-up finishes in four seasons from 2011-14. The 2011 squad was ranked as high as 33 in the ESPN Fab 50 poll.
During that time, Puntarelli also served as the director of the South Indy Club where he coached the boys 18U Elite team. Under Puntarelli's guidance, the Elite program produced three All-Americans and finished in third place at the AAU Junior National Championships in three consecutive years.
While at Roncalli HS, Puntarelli also participated in football and baseball. He went on to play college football at the University of Indianapolis, serving as the Greyhounds' punter/kicker. Puntarelli graduated from UIndy in 2012 with a bachelor's degree in biology.
Aaron is the son of Tim and Kathy Puntarelli and has two sisters, Janel and Mandy, and a brother, Tony.
