Patrick Schulkers

The 2020-21 season marks the second year for Patrick Schulkers as the Tennessee rowing program’s graduate assistant.
Schulkers enters UT’s program with a rich history of coaching in rowing. He previously was a program head novice coach at Marin Rowing Association in Greenbrae, Calif., from 2008-2011. In his role, he coached the 2011 Youth National Champion Boys Lightweight 8+. He also recruited and evaluated 60 athletes that led to the creation of a medal winning program.
In 2011, he became the assistant coach at the University of California, Berkeley and served as the freshmen coach and recruiting coordinator. He managed the rowing program’s budget, including scholarship allotments and renewals. During his time there, the team won a Pac-12 team title and a National Champion IRA Varsity 8 and team title. Additionally, his boats won four Pac-12 event titles, an IRA 3rd Varsity 8+ event title, and a Henley Royal Regatta title.
Throughout his time at Cal, Schulkers also became the executive director over Friends of Cal Crew in 2013. He led and managed day-to-day operations for nonprofit organizations under the Rogers Family Foundation to support and enhance rowing at the highest level, including an Olympic Training Center.
In international racing, he coached at the Henley Royal Regatta three times with a victory in the Visitor’s 4 in 2015. Along with an eighth-place finish from the USA U23 men’s team and a fifth-place finish by the U23 Lightweight Women’s Quad in 2014 at the U23 World Championships. He has also coached over 10 championships at Royal Canadian Henley Regatta with men and women.
In September 2018, Schulkers became the founder of Strokewise based out of San Francisco, Calif. The company assists athletes, families, coaches and clubs on recruiting and program guidance. He served multiple roles in his position, including educating and assisting high school rowers on the college recruiting progress and how to achieve their goals.
Schulkers earned his Bachelor of Science in Industrial and Systems Engineering from Ohio State University.
