Chelsea Pemberton enters her third season as an assistant coach for the Tennessee rowing team in 2016-17. Pemberton serves as the head coach for the Volunteer novice squad. Pemberton, a 2005 graduate of Tennessee, recruits students to the novice squad and teaches them the fundamentals of rowing. Prior to joining Tennessee's coaching staff, Pemberton served a two-year stint as the novice coach at the University of North Carolina. Prior to her work with the Tar Heels, Pemberton spent time at Bucknell University (2011-12), handling all aspects of recruiting and serving as the novice coach, and at the University of Alabama as an assistant coach (2009-11). Prior to her work with Alabama, Pemberton coached at the Smoky Mountain Rowing Center in Maryville from 2008-09, and served as a special education teacher for Knox County Schools from 2006-08. Pemberton was a three-time CRCA All-American during her time as a student-athlete at Tennessee from 2002-05. She is the only Tennessee rower to be named an All-American in three separate seasons. She also led her team to three NCAA appearances with the Varsity 8 crew as she finished 16th, 10th and eighth at the NCAA Championship. The 2005 squad, which finished eighth, had the best ever finish by UT at a NCAA Championship. Pemberton earned a Bachelor's Degree in English and Creative Writing.
