Sanders came to Knoxville from Iowa City, Iowa, where she was a four-year letterwinner in women’s basketball for the University of Iowa. A participant in the WBCA’s “So You Want To Be A Coach” program, she served as a team captain on Lisa Bluder’s 2020-21 squad and earned a degree in psychology in 2021.
Playing in 63 games during her career, Sanders helped Iowa to three NCAA Tournament appearances. It would have been four if not for the cancellation of the 2020 postseason due to the COVID-19 health pandemic.
A native of Evansville, Ind., Sanders graduated from Central High School, where she was a two-time all-state and all-city selection in hoops. She comes from a very athletic family, with her mom (Ulanda), dad (Vincent) and sister (Zuriel) playing collegiately at Georgia, South Carolina State and Texas Tech, respectively. Her brother (Zebrie) played football at Florida State and was drafted by the NFL’s Buffalo Bills.
