Tee Martin will forever be engrained in Tennessee history after leading the Volunteers to the 1998 BCS National Championship. Martin posted a 22-3 record as a starter in his two seasons as Tennessee's starting quarterback, including a perfect 13-0 mark at home. At the end of his career, Martin ranked fourth in program history in career passing yardage (4,592), completions (326), attempts (588), touchdown passes (32) and total offense (5,206), as well as owning the school record for rushing touchdowns by a quarterback with 16. On Sept. 2, 2021, Martin was among four Black Tennessee football trailblazers who were honored with statues of their likeness dedicated outside of Gate 21 at Neyland Stadium.
1999 - SENIOR
- First Team All-SEC selection by Coaches and the AP.
- One of six team captains.
- Rushed for over 40 yards in five of the final eight games.
- Passed for a season-high 311 yards versus Arkansas, the second-highest total in his career, while establishing a career-best mark of 354 yards of total offense (11/13/1999).
- Earned SEC Offensive Player of the Week honors in back-to-back games against Georgia and Alabama.
- Accounted for all three of Tennessee's scores (two rush, one pass) in a 21-7 win at Alabama (10/23/1999).
- Racked up 332 yards of total offense and accounted for all four scores (three rush, one pass) in Tennessee's 37-20 win over Georgia (10/9/1999).
- Opened the season with 264 yards and two touchdowns versus Wyoming (9/4/1999).
1998 - JUNIOR
- In his first season as the starting quarterback, led Tennessee to its sixth national championship in program history.
- In one of the most iconic plays in Tennessee football history, found Peerless Price for a 79-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter to seal the Vols' BCS National Championship win over Florida State.
- Started all 13 games for the Vols, passing for 2,164 yards on 153-of-267 attempts for a 57.3 completion percentage.
- Held an excellent 3.2:1 touchdown-to-interceptions ratio, hitting on 19 touchdown passes while throwing just six interceptions.
- Rushed for 287 yards and seven touchdowns.
- At season's end, ranked fifth in the SEC in pass efficiency at 144.4 and seventh in total offense with 204.3 yards per game.
- In the BCS National Championship Game win over Florida State (1/4/1999), completed 11-of-18 passes for 278 yards and two touchdowns.
- Named SEC offensive player of the week against South Carolina (10/31/1998) when he rewrote NCAA and SEC record books for passing efficiency. Martin set NCAA marks for most consecutive completions in one game (23) and most consecutive in a two game span (24).
- Had over 200 yards of total offense seven times and collected a then-career-high 352 against South Carolina (10/31/1998). Also tied a career high with four touchdown passes against the Gamecocks.
- Set a career high with four touchdown passes against Houston (9/26/1998), throwing for 234 yards on 14-of-19 passing.
- In Tennessee's season opener against No. 17 Syracuse (9/5/1998), led the Vols downfield late in the fourth quarter to set up a game-winning field goal as time expired in a 34-33 victory over the Orange.
1997 - SOPHOMORE
- Saw action in five games as Peyton Manning's backup.
- Capped the season by bringing the Vols downfield 80 yards in eight plays for a late score against Nebraska in the Orange Bowl (1/2/1998). He was 4-for-4 for 53 yards on the drive, ran one time for 11 yards and finished the drive with a three-yard touchdown pass to Andy McCullough.
- In the season opener against Texas Tech (8/30/1997), completed five of 10 passes for 87 yards and one touchdown—the first touchdown of his career.
1996 - FRESHMAN
- Played quarterback late in five games (UNLV, vs. Ole Miss, Arkansas, Kentucky, vs. Northwestern).
- Completed two of four passes for 24 yards and rushed 12 times for 14 yards.
HIGH SCHOOL
- Graduated from Williamson Newman High School in Mobile, Ala., where he was coached by Curtis Horton.
- 1995 Parade All-American
- Rated the No. 1 prospect in Alabama.
- All-State selection both as a quarterback and a punter.
- Was a two-time All-State quarterback.
- A four-year starter, Martin completed 245 of 558 passes for 4,054 yards and 36 touchdowns while rushing for 1,035 yards and 13 touchdowns.
- As a senior, had over 1,400 yards of total offense in only eight games. Completed 62 of 136 passes for 1,003 yards and eight touchdowns.
- As a junior, passed for 2,058 yards and 21 TDs while completing 176 of 269 passes.
