Brandon Lawson enters his fourth season as Tennessee’s director of scouting in 2024. The Knoxville native returned to his alma mater in 2021 and has worked closely with head coach Josh Heupel for the past seven seasons.
Since returning to UT, Lawson has helped the Volunteers sign three straight top-15 recruiting classes. while serving on a staff that has lifted the program to its most successful two-year run since the mid-2000s. That run has included 27 victories, three straight bowl games, back-to-back top-20 poll finishes, a 2023 Orange Bowl title and 2024 Citrus Bowl triumph.
Lawson previously served as the director of player personnel for UCF from December 2017 to February 2021. He played a key role in the Knights’ success that featured a 28-8 record and three consecutive bowl appearances, including a Fiesta Bowl berth in 2018.
Prior to Orlando, Lawson spent two seasons as director of recruiting at Eastern Kentucky. During his tenure, he helped EKU pull in the No. 14-ranked class in NCAA FCS in 2016 and a 2017 class that included 20 players with all-state honors.
Before going to EKU, Lawson was director of player personnel at Middle Tennessee from 2014-15. With the Blue Raiders, he was responsible for a comprehensive recruiting and evaluation strategy, while also planning and executing all prospect visits to campus. Middle Tennessee reached the Bahamas Bowl in Lawson’s final season.
Lawson is no stranger to Rocky Top. He spent four years as the football personnel administrator at Tennessee from 2010-14. With the Volunteers, he was charged with creating prospect databases, managing assistant coaches' recruiting operations and planning and executing visit events on campus. He was part of a staff that hauled in the Vols’ Class of 2014 that ranked No. 5 in the nation according to Rivals.com.
Prior to his time at UT, Lawson served in the United States Marine Corps from 2004-10. From 2007-09, he was the Marine One Crew Chief during President George W. Bush's presidency. Marine One is the call sign of any Marine Corps aircraft carrying the President of the United States. Lawson was tasked with ensuring the mechanical integrity of the VH-60N Marine One helicopter and all in-flight operations. He also supervised the training of potential Marine One crew chiefs.
Lawson earned a bachelor's degree in logistics from Tennessee in 2013.
Lawson and his wife, Kaci, married in the summer of 2023.
