Todd Watson enters his third season on Jeremy Pruitt’s Tennessee staff and his first as the Director of Football Programming. Watson served as the Director of Football Operations his first two seasons, including during the Vols’ remarkable 2019 finish that included six straight victories and a win in the TaxSlayer Gator Bowl.
Prior to coming to Knoxville, Watson served as the Director of Operations and High School Relations for the Trojans from 2015-17. Troy combined to go 20-5 over his last two seasons and shared the Sun Belt Championship with Appalachian State in 2017.
The Trojans finished 10-3 in 2016, including a victory over Ohio in the Dollar General Bowl. Troy wrapped up the 2017 regular season with a 10-2 mark and earned a berth in the New Orleans Bowl.
Watson was one of the most successful high school coaches in Alabama before joining Neal Brown’s staff at Troy. Watson compiled an 80-36 record in 10 seasons as the head coach of Foley High School, where he coached Atlanta Falcons star wide receiver Julio Jones and other future NFL players such as Robert Lester and D.J. Fluker.
Watson proceeded Pruitt as defensive coordinator at Alabama prep powerhouse Hoover High School from 2000-04, helping the Buccaneers to a 70-4 record and four Alabama 6A state titles. He also spent time as an assistant coach at Bryant High School and Alba High School.
Watson is a 1993 graduate of the University of Mobile. He and his wife, Christie, have two daughters, LeighAshton and Micah, and a son-in-law, Seth Nuss.
