- Title:
- Player Development
Director of Player Development Kerry Stevenson joined the Tennessee football program in March of 2019. Stevenson and his staff are responsible for preparing student-athletes for personal and academic development success, while adhering to all department and university policies and procedures, as well as the rules, regulations, bylaws and interpretations of the SEC Conference and NCAA.
A veteran football staff member, Stevenson holds an array of experience and accomplishments that help him to connect with and guide the development of the Volunteers football student-athletes.
Prior to coming to Rocky Top, Stevenson spent six years in the same role at Alabama under Nick Saban, after a decorated career as a high school football head coach and teacher. Stevenson spent time in Fort Myers, Fla., Birmingham and Mobile, Ala., teaching and coaching on the scholastic level, before transitioning to focus on the development of collegiate student-athletes.
As head coach for Vigor High School in Prichard, Ala., Stevenson led his team to a perfect 15-0 season and the 2008 state championship and was the state runner-up in 2011. Seven of his players would go on to have stints in the NFL.
His combined passion for education and athletics has motivated thousands of students to attend college and helped hundreds of student-athletes to gain athletic scholarships. Stevenson was able to overcome his own struggles in the classroom to have major academic success throughout his life.
He received the Presidential Scholarship as he graduated from Huffman High School in Birmingham, Ala., and attended Alabama A & M University in 1986. Stevenson majored in Mathematics and graduated Magna Cum Laude as an undergraduate and continued on, despite adversities, to also earn a master’s degree in math education.
Stevenson is also a published poet and author, publishing his first book, “Inspirations In Life: Inspired by Faith, Family, Friends and Football”.
He and his wife Tracy have two children Aisha, 23 and Jaylon, 17.
