Garrett Cox
- Title:
- Quality Control Analyst
Garrett Cox is in his second year as a defensive quality control analyst on the Tennessee football staff after spending four seasons as an analyst at Alabama.
Cox was part of a staff that helped lead the Vols to one of the most impressive in-season turnarounds in college football during the 2019 season. After starting the year 2-5, UT won its final five regular-season games before posting a dramatic comeback victory over Indiana in the TaxSlayer Gator Bowl.
Tennessee’s defense played a major role in turnaround, holding opponents to only 14.4 points per contest in the final five games of the year, which was tops in the SEC during that stretch.
Before joining Jeremy Pruitt’s staff in Knoxville, Cox was an analyst at Alabama from 2015-18. During that stretch, the Crimson Tide won a pair of National Championships (2015 & 2017) and three SEC titles (2015, 2016, 2018). Cox worked directly under Pruitt in 2016 and 2017 when Pruitt was the defensive coordinator for Alabama.
Prior to working at Alabama, Cox was the linebackers coach at Texas Southern from 2011 to 2015 after serving as a graduate assistant during his first season with the program in 2010. Cox arrived at Texas Southern after serving as the linebackers coach at Fort Scott Community College in 2009.
Before coaching at Fort Scott, Cox was an administrative assistant at Auburn. He was also an assistant linebackers coach for the Buford High School football team in Georgia in 2008.
Cox spent time as the video coordinator at Georgia Southern (2007) and as a student assistant for the defensive staff at Georgia (2006), as well.
Cox earned his bachelor’s degree in Education from the University of Georgia.
