Brian Niedermeyer enters his third season at Tennessee and his first fall as the inside linebackers coach in 2020.
Niedermeyer coached tight ends the past two seasons and was named the National Recruiter of the Year by 247Sports and ESPN in 2019. He previously was a defensive graduate assistant working with linebackers under head coach Jeremy Pruitt at Georgia and Alabama, and he worked with linebackers at Miami (Fla.) in 2013.
One of the coaching professions up-and-coming stars, Niedermeyer is also an accomplished fundamental coach on both sides of the ball. A former collegiate tight end, he has helped develop 32 NFL Draft picks. Niedermeyer served as the assistant director of recruiting operations with the Crimson Tide in 2017 after his role as a defensive graduate assistant in 2016.
He broke into the SEC as a graduate assistant at Georgia in 2015. A native of Eagle River, Alaska, he was the wide receivers coach at East Texas Baptist University in 2014 and also worked on the staffs at Miami (Fla.) and Arkansas at Pine Bluff. Niedermeyer played tight end at UAPB.
Â
Tennessee (2018-Present)
Niedermeyer was named National Recruiter of the Year in 2019 by 247Sports and ESPN, joining Pruitt and Tee Martin as the third coach on Tennessee’s staff to win the award.
Thanks in large part to the tight end room, Tennessee’s offense improved in total offense, passing yards, rushing, scoring offense, third down conversions and turnover margin in 2019.
Dominick Wood-Anderson participated in the 2020 East-West Shirne Game after totaling 37 catches for 406 yards and three touchdowns in 2018 and 2019 under Niedermeyer. Wood-Anderson signed a free agent contract with the Seattle Seahawks in April 2020.
Wood-Anderson joined redshirt junior Austin Pope to give the Vols an experienced tight end duo in 2019. The unit provided a reliable outlet for Tennessee’s passers and paved the way for the ground game as effective blockers.
The Vols finished 8-5 and 5-3 in the SEC in 2019, capping the season with a six-game win streak and a 23-22 victory over Indiana in the 2020 TaxSlayer Gator Bowl. Â
Alabama (2016-17)
Niedermeyer served as the assistant director of recruiting operations with the Crimson Tide in 2017, facilitating the day-to-day operations and recruiting efforts for student-athletes as well as on-campus recruiting events.
Â
In 2016, Niedermeyer was a defensive graduate assistant, specializing in linebackers under Pruitt, Alabama’s defensive coordinator.

Alabama finished 14-1, winning the SEC Championship and the Sugar Bowl before falling to Clemson in the College Football Playoff Championship Game.
Â
Foster collected consensus All-America honors and won the Butkus Award after totaling 115 tackles, 13 TFLs and five sacks. Williams was a second-team All-American after tallying nine sacks, while Anderson nabbed first-team All-SEC honors and led the Crimson Tide with 19 TFLs. The trio moved onto the NFL after the season. Foster was selected by the San Francisco 49ers with the No. 31 pick in the first round, Anderson was picked No. 49 overall in the second round by the Washington Redskins and the Baltimore Ravens chose Williams in the third round.

Working primarily with linebackers, Niedermeyer helped coach All-SEC linebacker Leonard Floyd and Senior Bowl invitees Jake Ganus and Jordan Jenkins. He also helped develop future SEC Defensive Player of the Year Roquan Smith, who was a true freshman at the time, and future two-year starter Davin Bellamy.
Â
Ganus led the Bulldogs with 101 tackles. Floyd ranked second with 72 stops to go along with 8.5 TFLs. Jenkins finished with 58 tackles and 9.5 TFLs.
Â

Â
Miami (2013)
