#12 Lady Vols Earn 4-0 win over Bellarmine
March 25, 2026 | Women's Tennis
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The No. 12 University of Tennessee women's tennis team (10-5, 5-4) picked up a nonconference win Wednesday versus Bellarmine (4-16), posting a 4-0 victory at Barksdale Stadium.
"I absolutely love the way our team came out here and was solid, start to finish," Tennessee head coach Alison Ojeda said. "Bellarmine fights hard, and they put balls on the court. In order to have the scores that we had, we had to go looking for every single point and take it."
The Lady Vols claimed the doubles point and singles win on courts six, two and one to seal the victory.
In doubles play, the No. 74-ranked duo of Vanesa Suarez and Francesca Mattioli cruised through their match on court one. They defeated the Knights' tandem of Vendula Kryslova and Reese Parker, 6-1. One court three, Katrina Scott and Maeve Thronton also made quick work of their opponents, Lilli Willis and Claudia Fuste, recording a 6-1 frame. Tennessee's No. 24 Catherine Aulia and Leyla Britez-Risso were up 5-1 before Tennessee clinched the doubles point.
In singles competition, Tennessee earned a three-court sweep to clinch the match. On court six, Thornton handed the Lady Vols their second dual point, downing her opponent 6-1, 6-0.
"Maeve is a perfectionist," Ojeda said. "She's going to put in all the work and she's going to be prepared. She's going to do all the little things, but sometimes that makes it hard to go out and compete. To her credit today, she did an unbelievable job and just managed her tennis and had fun."
On court two, Britez-Risso posted a flawless 6-0 first set in her match against Reese Parker. Parker dug in to get two of the games in the next set, though Britez Risso would ultimately post a 6-2 finish to claim the victory.
Suarez, manning court one, also posted a first-set shutout against Bellarmine's Vendula Kryslova. In the second stanza, Suarez sealed the match with a 6-2 finish.
