Fahey, Menendez Garner SEC Weekly Honors
April 16, 2025 | Rowing
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – After a clean sweep at the inaugural Rocky Top Invite April 4-5, two members of the Tennessee rowing team captured weekly honors from the Southeastern Conference, as announced by the league office Wednesday afternoon.
Senior Alice Fahey was named the SEC Co-Rower of the Week, while Patricia Menendez earned Freshman of the Week honors.
Due to Tennessee being the league's only school to compete a week ago, the award announcements were delayed one week.
Fahey, a native of Wellington, New Zealand, aided Tennessee's first varsity eight crew to an eight-plus second win over a pair of ranked teams in the A Final at the Rocky Top Invite. The award marks the first weekly conference honor since Fahey and UT's 1V8+ crew won Big 12 Boat of the Week honors on April 24, 2024. Marg Van der Wal of Texas shared this week's honor with Fahey.
Menendez, from Gotha, Florida, served as the coxswain of the Lady Vol 1V8+ boat in Oak Ridge, picking up a pair of race victories in just her second official collegiate rowing event. She coxed the first varsity eight to a dominant showing in the heat race, outpacing Minnesota's top boat by nearly 16 seconds and crossing the line over 22 seconds ahead of North Carolina's 1V8+. That crew would go on to take down UCF and Duke in the A Final competition.
These two awards mark the first-ever SEC weekly honors for the Lady Vols, having joined the conference this past offseason.
