Barnes Selected as a Skip Prosser Man of the Year Award Finalist
March 06, 2025 | Men's Basketball
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – University of Tennessee head men's basketball coach Rick Barnes is a finalist for the 2024-25 Skip Prosser Man of the Year Award, as announced Thursday morning by CollegeInsider.com.
The Skip Prosser Man of the Year Award honors those who not only achieve success on the basketball court but who display moral integrity on and off it as well.
The recipient of the annual award is determined by a 10-member voting committee, which consists of current and former head coaches, as well as two senior staff members of CollegeInsider.com. The winner will be announced in April in San Antonio, Texas, the site of the Final Four.
The award is named for the late Skip Prosser, who went 291-146 in 14 seasons as a Division I head coach, including six at Wake Forest, seven at Xavier and one at Loyola (MD). He was the 2003 ACC Coach of the Year and led the Demon Deacons to their first No. 1 ranking in program history. Prosser passed away of an apparent heart attack on July 26, 2007, in his office at Wake Forest after returning from his morning jog.
Barnes is well known for his giving spirit, care for others and charitable kindness. He is deeply respected by his peers, his staff, his players and the communities in which he has coached.
On the court, he is among the most accomplished coaches of all-time and, this season, has led Tennessee to a 24-6 (11-6 SEC) record that includes a current ranking of fourth nationally.
