BATON ROUGE, La. – The seventh-ranked Tennessee women's tennis team dropped its first conference contest of the season in a 4-0 defeat at No. 10 LSU on Sunday afternoon.

"Lots of credit to LSU," head coach Alison Ojeda said. "They stayed tough late in the doubles and put a big point on the board for themselves. This one hurts because we felt like we could have been a bit better in certain situations. Time to get home and rest up for what is about to be our best week of practice yet."

Tennessee (8-2, 2-1 SEC) battled until the end, but LSU (11-1, 3-0 SEC) captured the doubles point. The No. 56-ranked pair of Elza Tomase and Elim Yan fell to the No. 17-ranked pair of Cadence Brace and Kayla Cross, 2-6. Maeve Thornton and Vanesa Suarez produced the only win of the day with a 6-2 victory against Kenna Erickson and Gaby Rivera.

For the second-straight match, the doubles point came down to court two. Catherine Aulia and Leyla Britez Risso were not able to fend off the No. 22-ranked duo of Tilwith Di Girolami and Anita Sahdiieva in a tiebreak that ended in a 6-7(10) finish.

In singles, the Lady Vols could not get into a groove, giving up four-straight wins. No. 69 Britez Risso dropped a 2-6, 2-6 affair to No. 72 Tilwith Di Girolami. No. 5 Tomase could not overcome Cadence Brace in a 3-6, 1-6 defeat. Conley Raidt fell in the final singles match to Kenna Erickson, 3-6, 4-6.

Up Next: Tennessee will return home to face South Carolina on Friday, March 7. The match is slated for noon ET at Barksdale Stadium.
