Doyle & Clark Garner SEC Weekly Honors
March 10, 2025 | Baseball
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Tennessee's Liam Doyle and Levi Clark were both garnered SEC weekly award honors on Monday after helping lead the Vols to an undefeated 5-0 showing last week.
Doyle was named the SEC Pitcher of the Week while Clark was tabbed the SEC Co-Freshman of the Week, marking the first time either has received weekly honors from the league in their careers.
Doyle continued his incredible start to the season with another dominant performance in Tennessee's series-opening win over St. Bonaventure on Friday night. The junior lefthander played a starring role in the ninth no-hitter in program history and first since 2002, tossing 5.2 shutout innings with 13 strikeouts to earn the win and improve to 3-0 on the year.
The Derry, New Hampshire native, bookended his start with a pair of walks but retired 17 consecutive batters between those two free passes before exiting the game. Doyle's 13 punchouts were one away from tying a career high and brought his NCAA-leading total to 47 in just 20.1 innings pitched this season.
Doyle is the ninth Vol to earn SEC Pitcher of the Week honors since 2019 and the first since AJ Causey earned the distinction on Feb. 19, 2024.
Clark put together another impressive week to cement his status as one of the nation's best freshmen so far this season. The Georgia native led all SEC freshmen with a .615 batting average for the week after going 8-for-13 with a double and a home run while driving in six runs to add to his team-leading RBI total (23).
Clark posted back-to-back three hit performances in Tennessee's two midweek wins over Radford and Xavier and added three RBIs in Wednesday's win over the Musketeers. He continued his offensive production with an RBI single and a stolen base in Friday's series-opening win over St. Bonaventure. He did not record a hit in Saturday's win over the Bonnies but did draw three walks before reaching base three more times in Sunday's series finale with two walks and a two-run homer, his sixth of the season.
Clark is the eighth UT player to be named SEC Freshman of the Week since 2021 and the first since Dean Curley on March 11, 2024.
Tennessee has now had three players earn SEC weekly awards this season after Gavin Kilen was named the SEC Player of the Week just seven days ago.
The Vols host West Georgia on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. before opening SEC play with a top-10 showdown on Friday night at home against No. 6/7 Florida at 6:30 p.m.
