Arion Carter Named To 2025 SEC Football Leadership Council
February 04, 2025 | Football
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Tennessee linebacker Arion Carter will serve on the 2025 Southeastern Conference Football Leadership Council, the league office has announced.
The group consisting of 16 student-athletes met this past weekend in Birmingham with SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey. Agenda items included NCAA and SEC legislative discussion, engagement with football officials on rules of the game, student-athlete/referee interaction and careers in officiating, and a presentation from motivational speaker Timothy Alexander. The group also reviewed SEC student-athlete engagement opportunities.
Carter, who will be a junior this fall, is a two-time member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll, while majoring in public health. On the field, Carter was the Volunteers' leading tackler last fall with 68, including 29 of the solo variety. He notched 6.5 tackles for loss, one interception and one pass breakup. The Smyrna native led a stout Tennessee defense that ranked in the top 10 nationally in six different categories and allowed only 16.1 points per game en route to the program's first College Football Playoff.
Carter is one of the top returning leaders in the SEC in 2025 with 21 games played and 13 starts.
The Football Leadership Council is one of three components of the SEC Student-Athlete Leadership Council. The other two components are the Men's and Women's Basketball Leadership Councils. Student-Athlete Leadership Councils for the sports of football and men's and women's basketball, along with the conference's longstanding Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC), provide student-athletes with additional opportunities to engage with campus leaders and conference office staff. The councils serve as a conduit of communication to the conference office on issues related to student-athlete experience, student-athlete wellness and playing rules.
