Fahey, Smith Named CRCA Athletes to Watch
February 26, 2025 | Rowing
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Two members of the Tennessee rowing team received recognition from the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) Wednesday afternoon. Senior Alice Fahey and junior Hannah Smith were each included on the CRCA's Athletes to Watch list.
Fahey and Smith were two of just 20 Division I rowers to be included on the watch list. A trio of coxswains were also honored.
Â
A season ago, as a junior in her first year at UT, Fahey earned 2024 CRCA First Team All-America status, was named to the All-Big 12 Rowing Team and was also recognized as a CRCA National Scholar-Athlete. Following Tennessee's third-place result in the NCAA Championship with the Lady Vols' 1V8+ boat, Fahey earned silver at the 2024 World Rowing Under 23 Championships with Team New Zealand in the Women's Four competition. She was also honored on the CRCA Athletes to Watch list entering the 2024 campaign.
Â
Smith logged a stellar sophomore season in 2024, racing primarily in Tennessee's 1V8+ boat and posting the same 44-4 boat record as Fahey during UT's historically successful year. Smith and the Lady Vols posted the program best national finish, third, in the first varsity eight, while she landed on the Big 12 Academic All-Conference First Team. This past summer, Smith secured silver at the World Rowing U23 Championships with Team USA in the Women's Eight event.
The Lady Vols officially commence their 2025 season March 29 in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, racing against Stanford on Melton Hill Lake.
Â
The event—which is free for all fans—marks a battle between two of the nation's top three teams from a season ago, as Tennessee (third) followed Stanford's second-place showing at the 2024 NCAA Championships.
Â
The following weekend, UT hits the Oak Ridge waters once again, as it hosts the first-ever Rocky Top Invite, Friday-Saturday, April 4-5.
