McSharry Wins Fourth Straight 100 Breast Title, UT Nets Six Medals on Day 5 of SECs

ATHENS, Ga. – Another exceptional day of competition saw Tennessee swimming & diving win six medals and break four school records on the penultimate day of the 2025 SEC Championships.

The highlight of the night came in the women's 100 breaststroke, where Mona McSharry and McKenzie Siroky battled until the end for a one-two finish for the Lady Vols. McSharry (57.26) edged out Siroky by 0.01 seconds to win her fourth straight gold medal in the event. She joined Georgia's Kristy Kowal (1997-2000) as the only swimmers to ever achieve this feat in conference history.

Siroky brought home the silver, marking her first career SEC medal. She touched the wall in 57.27, which was the second-fastest time in school history.

In the women's 400 medley relay, the lineup of Josephine Fuller, McSharry, Sara Stotler and Camille Spink took silver with the No. 2 time in school history at 3:25.18. It marked the eighth straight year in which the Lady Vols have podiumed in the event.

For the second year in a row, Martin Espernberger earned his spot on the podium in the 200 fly, taking silver with a time of 1:39.69. He became to first Vol to medal in back-to-back meets in the event since Matt Hall in 1998-99. Björn Kammann narrowly missed a top-3 finish, placing fourth overall behind the second-fastest time in school history at 1:40.18.

Breaking a school record in the process, Fuller won her third straight silver medal in the 100 back, throwing down a time of 50.05. Regan Rathwell (51.92) finished 10th in the event followed by Jillian Crooks (51.95) in 12th and Lexi Stephens (52.04) in 13th. All three posted new times on the top-10 leaderboard for UT history, checking in at sixth, seventh and ninth, respectively.

In the final race of the night, the squad of Harrison Lierz, Kevin Houseman, Jordan Crooks and Gui Caribe became the first Volunteer 400 medley relay to swim under three minutes, clocking a time of 2:59.69 to bring home silver. Lierz led off the race with a school-record mark of 44.76 in the 100 back.

Lierz clocked a then-UT-best time of 44.87 to touch the wall in fourth in the 100 back A final earlier in the night. Stotler led the way in the 200 fly with a fifth-place finish. During prelims, she became the first swimmer in program history to swim sub-1:53 in the event, clocking a 1:52.66 to shatter the previous record.

Notables
- In total, 23 Vols and Lady Vols competed in Friday's finals with a combined nine A finalists, seven B finalists and seven C finalists. Fourteen new top-10 times in school history were set.
- Three Lady Vols swam in the 200 fly A final. In addition to Stotler, the freshmen duo of Emily Brown and Ella Jansen took sixth and eighth in the race. Both also had top-10 marks on the day, as Brown posted the No. 4 time (1:53.31) while Jansen had the No. 8 effort (1:54.28).
- In the 100 back, Ben Bricca placed 12th overall with a personal-best time of 46.20. In the C final, Lamar Taylor recorded the No. 9 effort in program history at 45.93 to take 17th.
- Aidan Hill took 14th in the 200 fly after notching the No. 9 time in school history at 1:43.39.
- Maddie Reese finished 16th in the women's platform B final, posting a score of 218.35. Lynae Shorter took 23rd in the event.
- Hannah Marinovich placed 16th in the 100 breast, while Tori Brostowitz came in 18th.
- Kevin Houseman won the 100 breast C final, clocking a 51.89 effort to move into seventh on the school leaderboard. Jed Garner finished 21st in the event.
