Lanier Named to Wooden Award Late Midseason Top 20 Watch List

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Chaz Lanier of the University of Tennessee men's basketball team is among the elite selections for the John R. Wooden Award Late Midseason Top 20 Watch List.
The Los Angeles Athletic Club announced the honorees Tuesday evening. Lanier was one of 18 players from the Wooden Award Midseason Top 25 Watch List who made the cut to 20, while two new competitors were added.
Selected by a panel of national college basketball experts, the list comprises 20 student-athletes who are frontrunners for the Wooden Award All-American Team and the Wooden Award Player of the Year.
Players not chosen for the late midseason list remain eligible for inclusion on the Wooden Award National Ballot, which will feature 15 top players. The Wooden Award All-American Team will then be announced during the week of the NCAA Tournament Elite Eight.
Lanier is averaging 17.7 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.0 assist per game in 2024-25, his first campaign with the Volunteers. He is top-five nationally and atop the SEC in both 3-point makes per game (3.50) and in total made 3-pointers (84).
A fifth-year guard from Nashville, Tenn., Lanier ranks second in the SEC in made field goals (148), third in 3-point percentage (41.6) and fourth in scoring average. He has registered 17-plus points in 16 of 24 outings at Tennessee, with 21-plus in nine.
In addition, Lanier has connected on at least four 3-pointers in half his appearances this season, with five-plus in seven of them for No. 4/5 Tennessee (20-4, 7-4 SEC).
