Ament Repeats as SEC Freshman of the Week
November 17, 2025 | Men's Basketball
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Nate Ament of the University of Tennessee men's basketball team is the SEC Freshman of the Week for the second consecutive time, as announced Monday afternoon by the league office.
The forward from Manassas, Va., has now won each of the first two such honors of the 2025-26 season to begin his collegiate career.
In the Volunteers' lone outing last week, Ament recorded 19 points, nine rebounds, five assists, two steals and one block. His performance helped Tennessee register a 99-66 victory Wednesday night against North Florida at Food City Center.
Ament became the fifth SEC freshman—seventh instance—in the last 20 years (2006-26) to record that stat line in a contest, joining Ben Simmons, James Young, Archie Goodwin and John Wall. Just one other Volunteer, Igor Miličić Jr., in any class has logged such an outing over that two-decade span.
This is the 24th SEC Freshman of the Week honor for a Tennessee player since the award was reinstated in 2005-06, including the 12th in head coach Rick Barnes' 11-year tenure at the helm of the program.
The last Volunteer to win multiple SEC Freshman of the Week recognitions in a single season was Kennedy Chandler in 2021-22. Jaden Springer (2020-21), Tobias Harris (three in 2010-11), Scotty Hopson (2008-09) and Ramar Smith (three in 2006-07) are the other Tennessee players to achieve the feat.
Prior to Ament, no Tennessee player has ever to won back-to-back SEC Freshman of the Week plaudits. The last player from any school to claim the designation in consecutive weeks was Texas' Tre Johnson on Jan. 27 and Feb. 3, 2025.
Ament and No. 20/17 Tennessee (3-0) take the court Monday at 8:30 p.m. for a matchup with Rice, live on SEC Network from Food City Center.
