October 30, 2025 | Football
FORT WORTH, Texas – Tennessee senior quarterback Joey Aguilar was named to the 2025 Davey O'Brien QB Class on Thursday, making him one of three dozen players in contention for the 2025 Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award.
Aguilar was one of six quarterbacks from the SEC named to the class, which was tied with the Big 10 for the most from any conference.
Entering Week 10 of the season, Aguilar ranks in the top-15 nationally in passing yards (2,344 - fourth), passing yards/game (293.0 - eighth), passing yards per attempt (9.3 - 11th), passing touchdowns (18 - t-11th) and passing efficiency (162.82 - 14th).
The Antioch, California, native, is the SEC leader in passing yards, passing yards per game, yards per attempt and passing efficiency while ranking tied for second in passing touchdowns after a 396-yard, three-touchdown performance at Kentucky last Saturday night that landed him on the Davey O'Brien Award "Great 8" list for the week.
For the season, Aguilar is completing 66 percent of his pass attempts (166-252) and has 20 total touchdowns to his name (18 passing, two rushing). He has thrown for over 200 yards in all 32 starts of his FBS career dating back to his two seasons at Appalachian State prior to transferring to Tennessee in the spring.
For the fifth straight year, fan voting on social media (Facebook, Instagram and Twitter/X) will earn players bonus selection committee votes during the semifinalist, finalist and winner voting rounds. First-round fan voting will begin immediately following the QB Class announcement. To vote, fans must like the official graphic from the @daveyobrien social media account that highlights their favorite quarterback.
The list of semifinalists selected from the QB Class will be named on Wednesday, Nov. 12. The Foundation will announce the three finalists two weeks later (Tuesday, Nov. 25). The 2025 Davey O'Brien Award winner will be unveiled live on ESPN on Friday, Dec. 12, during The Home Depot College Football Awards.
The Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award is presented annually to the nation's best college quarterback and is the oldest and most prestigious national quarterback award. The 49th Annual Davey O'Brien Awards Dinner honoring the winner will be held Monday, Feb. 16, 2026, at The Fort Worth Club in Fort Worth, Texas.
