Serbia Tops South Sudan, 96-85, to Reach Olympic Quarterfinals

VILLENEUVE-D'ASCQ, France – Four-year University of Tennessee men's basketball letter winner Uros Plavšić and the Serbian National Team are headed to the quarterfinals of the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Serbia knocked off South Sudan, 96-85, Saturday evening at Pierre Mauroy Stadium to clinch a spot in the knockout round with a second-place finish in Group C. The team went 2-1 in pool play, winning back-to-back outings by double digits after dropping its first contest to the United States.
Plavšić, competing in his first Olympiad, and his countrymen will take on Australia in a quarterfinal gameTuesday at 8:30 a.m. ET at Bercy Arena in Paris.
The winner of that affair will face either Brazil or the United States in the semifinals. The other side of the bracket features Germany/Greece and Canada/France matchups.
A 7-foot-1, 265-pound center from Ivanjica, Serbia, Plavšić competed in 101 games across his four campaigns in Knoxville, Tenn., from 2019-23. He totaled 376 points, 287 rebounds and 45 starts, while shooting 57.3 percent from the floor.
Plavšić is one of a school-record 32 representatives from Tennessee at the Paris 2024 Olympics, including three in the sport of basketball.
