Vescovi Signs with BAXI Manresa to Begin Pro Career

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Former University of Tennessee men's basketball standout Santiago Vescovi has inked a contract with Spain-based BAXI Manresa to start his professional playing career.
BAXI Manresa plays in Liga ACB, the top flight of Spanish basketball system. It is also in the Basketball Champions League, FIBA Europe's premier club competition.
Last season, BAXI Manresa both finished top-eight in the 18-team Liga ACB and reached the quarterfinals of Copa del Rey, an annual cup competition, for the second time in three years.
Vescovi is among the most accomplished players in Tennessee history. Across his four-and-a-half seasons in Knoxville, Vescovi set program records in both steals (212) and starts (128), breaking the latter mark by 16.
A native of Montevideo, Uruguay, Vescovi is the only Volunteer ever to record 1,000 points, 500 rebounds, 400 assists and 15- steals. He appeared in 149 games and played 4,432 minutes, both third-most in program history.
The two-time First Team All-SEC performer ranks eighth in league history with 325 made 3-pointers, good for third-most by a Tennessee player. He is also fourth all-time among Volunteers in wins with 106 and made 3-pointers per game (min. 50 3PM) with 2.18, plus eighth in assists with 453.
A 6-foot-3, 196-pound guard, Vescovi concluded his playing career No. 10 on Tennessee's career leaderboard in assist-to-turnover ratio (min. 2.0 APG & 40 GP) with a 1.75 ledger and in 3-point percentage (min. 200 3PA) with 37.2 clip. He ranks No. 11 all-time in free-throw percentage (min. 300 FTA) with a 79.8 ledger and No. 13 in steals per game at 1.42.
En route to placing No. 18 on Tennessee's career scoring list with 1,540 points, Vescovi scored in double figures 81 times and reached 20-plus points on 10 occasions. He helped lead Tennessee to four NCAA Tournament appearances, two Sweet 16 trips, two SEC titles and one Elite Eight berth.
Before signing with BAXI Manresa, Vescovi competed with the Golden State Warriors in both the California Classic and the NBA Summer League. He averaged 3.0 points, 2.5 assists and 2.3 rebounds in 12.1 minutes per game in the latter competition, notching 10 points in the finale.
