WACO, Texas – Tennessee's Christian Moore was tabbed as the Dick Howser Trophy National Player of the Month for April, as announced by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association on Friday.
Moore was far and away the Vols' best hitter during the month of April, leading the team in numerous offensive categories, including batting average (.452), runs (20), hits (28), doubles (five), home runs (10), RBIs (27), total bases (63), slugging percentage (1.016) and on-base percentage (.507).
The junior second baseman also led the Southeastern Conference in hits, while ranking second in RBIs and slugging percentage to help lead Tennessee to a stellar 13-3 record for the month with series wins over Auburn, No. 25 LSU, No. 3 Kentucky and Missouri.
Moore earned National Player of the Week honors from D1Baseball.com and Perfect Game, as well as SEC Player of the Week acclaim following his incredible performances in the Vols' road series win at Kentucky.
The Brooklyn, New York, native had at least one hit and one RBI in each of the three games and was nearly impossible to get out in UT's back-to-back wins on Saturday and Sunday, combining to go 8-for-11 with five runs scored, four home runs and eight RBIs in those two contests.
Moore tied his career high with four base hits in each of those games and set or tied career bests with four runs, three homers and six RBIs in Sunday's rubber game. His three long balls tied the single-game program record and also moved him into first place on Tennessee's career home runs list. Moore's third round tripper on Sunday, a three-run blast in the eighth inning, proved to be the game-winner as the Big Orange clinched the series.
Moore is the first Tennessee player to be named an NCBWA Dick Howser Trophy Player of the Month since Drew Beam was tabbed the pitcher of the month for March in 2022.
