May 25, 2024 | Track & Field
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Over the course of the four-day regional meet in Lexington, Kentucky, the Tennessee track & field program finished the 2024 NCAA East Preliminary Rounds with 19 total performances that qualified for the upcoming NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Oregon – including seven qualifying marks from the 10th-ranked Lady Vols on Saturday. On the fourth and final day of the competition, UT secured two berths to nationals in both the 100-meter and 400-meter dashes along with one qualifier each in the 400-meter hurdles and 200-meter dash. The meet wrapped up with UT's top-seeded 4x400-meter relay securing qualification to the national meet for the second year in a row under head coach and director of track & field Duane Ross.
Graduate student Dennisha Page was Tennessee's only athlete to qualify for nationals in two individual events with her top-12 placements in the 100- and 200-meter dash quarterfinals. The Camden, New Jersey, native turned in times of 11.19 and 22.53 to finish 11th and 5th, respectively, punching her ticket to the NCAA Outdoor Championships for the first time in her five-year collegiate career.
Sixth-year standout Joella Lloyd will join Page in the 100-meter at nationals after throwing down a lifetime-best, Antiguan national record time of 11.06 to take third in her heat and automatically qualify. The 2020 Olympian improved her mark as the No. 3 performer in school history by .02 seconds and will return to Eugene for her fifth career NCAA National Championship appearance.
In the women's 400-meter dash quarterfinals, the Lady Vol duo of Brianna White and Javonya Valcourt continued their strong campaigns by clinching automatic berths to the national meet. White clocked in at a lifetime-best 50.64 seconds to finish second in her heat and second in the East Region, while Valcourt's time of 51.64 was good for ninth place overall and third in her heat.
Senior All-American Kyla Robinson-Hubbard qualified for nationals as an individual for the first time in her career in her signature event, the 400-meter hurdles. The Calabasas, California, native turned in a time of 56.14 to place second in her heat and sixth overall for the Lady Vols.
The regional meet ended with the women's 4x400-meter relay quarterfinals, and the top-seeded Lady Vols delivered a capital Q with their Heat 2 victory in 3:26.48. Valcourt, Robinson-Hubbard, DaJour Miles and White finished nearly three seconds faster than the previous University of Kentucky outdoor facility record, highlighted by Miles' split of 50.43 seconds on the third leg.
