BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Tennessee men's diving was well-represented on the SEC yearly honors, as coach Dave Parrington and senior Bryden Hattie garnered recognition from league coaches, the conference announced Wednesday.
Â
Hattie earned SEC Male Diver of the Year for the second consecutive season, while Parrington won SEC Men's Diving Coach of the Year honors.Â
Â
Hattie boasts the honor after one of the most successful campaigns of his career. The Victoria, British Columbia, native was the SEC champion and NCAA bronze medalist on platform. He was the only SEC diver to advance to two championship finals during NCAAs, garnering a pair of All-America First Team honors and posting the two highest finishes for the conference during the meet at third (platform) and fifth (3-meter).Â
Â
During the SEC Championships, Hattie claimed his third conference crown on platform and was tabbed SEC Diver of the Week five times throughout the season. For the year, he owned the highest score on platform in the conference at 479.20.Â
Â
With the award, Hattie became the fifth athlete in conference history to claim back-to-back SEC Male Diver of the Year accolades. The last person to accomplish this feat was VFL and current UT assistant coach Colin Zeng, who won the award in 2018 and 2019.Â
Â
The Vols now boast 14 winners of the honor all time. No other SEC school has won more than six. This also marked the eighth time in the past 13 seasons that the SEC Men's Diver of the Year hailed from Rocky Top.
Â
Parrington won his 12th SEC Men's Diving Coach of the Year honor in his career, with his first coming in 1994. The veteran coach has won the award more than any coach or program since its inception in 1992. He also received the honor more than the rest of the active coaches in the conference combined.
Â
Along with Hattie, Parrington also coached NCAA Championships participants Jacob Reasor and Nick Stone. Reasor picked up All-America accolades after finishing 15th on platform, while Hattie scored 30 total points to help the Vols take sixth at the meet–their highest finish since 2001. During the SEC Championships, the Vols' diving group posted six A final appearances, three appearances in B finals and three C finalists.
Â
Along with the yearly honors, the conference also announced members of the All-SEC teams for the 2023-24 season. The Vols boasted three on first team and six on second team. On the women's side, four Lady Vols were tabbed to first team, six to second team and two earned freshman team accolades. A complete list of UT representatives earning All-SEC honors is below.
