Coleman Reclaims 60-Meter Title, Taylor Makes Two Finals at World Indoor Championships

GLASGOW, Scotland — A pair of former Tennessee track & field standouts shined on the global stage this past weekend at the 2024 World Athletics Indoor Championships in Glasgow, Scotland. Team USA sprint star Christian Coleman claimed his second world title in the men's 60-meter dash on Friday, while the versatile Bahamian athlete Charisma Taylor took sixth in both the women's triple jump and 60-meter hurdles finals on Sunday.
Lining up in Lane 4 alongside his compatriot Noah Lyles, Coleman led the world 60-meter final wire-to-wire and closed the race with a season-best and 2024 world lead time of 6.41. The result marked his second career world indoor title in the 60-meter and first since winning gold in 2018 in his first professional indoor season.
Taylor made her World Indoor Championship debut in two events on Sunday, simultaneously competing in the women's triple jump and 60-meter hurdles for the Bahamas. After opening her triple jump series with a leap of 13.92 meters (45-8), Taylor headed to the starting blocks for the prelims of the 60-meter hurdles. She qualified for the semifinals with a time of 8.05, and ultimately finished sixth in the triple jump with a season-best leap of 14.11 meters (46-3.5) in the sixth round.
Coming back for the 60-meter hurdles semifinal during Sunday's PM session, Taylor clocked a lifetime-best 7.91 to place second in her heat and automatically advance to the final. Eighty minutes later, she posted a time of 7.92 in the final and placed sixth overall to round out her busy schedule on Sunday.
