INDIANAPOLIS – Tennessee swimmers broke two school records, as the Vols earned All-America honors in four events on night three of the NCAA Championships at IU Natatorium.
After night three, the Vols sit in seventh place in the team standings with 147 points. Tennessee holds a three-point advantage over Stanford going into the final day, while they are 18 points out from sixth.
In the final event of the night, the 400 medley relay lineup of Harrison Lierz, Flynn Crisci, Björn Kammann and Gui Caribe finished tied for fifth after throwing down the second-best time in program history of 3:01.97. It was the best finish by the Big Orange in the event since also placing fifth during the 2005 championships.
In the individual events, Bryden Hattie had the top performance of the night. Competing in the 3-meter championship final for a second year in a row, the senior threw down 406.95 effort to place fifth nationally. The effort marked the best finish in the event at NCAAs in his career, besting his sixth-place finish from a year ago.
In the 200 free, Jordan Crooks placed sixth overall, touching the wall in 1:31.04. It was the best finish by a Vol in the event since Mel Stewart placed fourth overall in 1990 in the same pool. During prelims, Crooks obliterated the school record in the 200 free, clocking an impressive 1:30.41. He was the first swimmer in Tennessee history to go sub-1:31.00 in the event.
