Knecht and Aidoo Register NABC All-District Accolades
March 19, 2024 | Men's Basketball
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Two members of the University of Tennessee men's basketball team garnered NABC All-District 20 status, as announced Tuesday morning.
Dalton Knecht is one of five players on the NABC First Team All-District 20, while Jonas Aidoo is among five on the NABC Second Team All-District 20.
Tennessee and Florida, which earned two second-team distinctions, are the only teams with two players who made the cut in National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) District 20 voting. This is the second year in a row multiple Volunteers did so, as Santiago Vescovi and Zakai Zeigler were both second-team picks in 2022-23.
Knecht is the first Tennessee player to receive NABC First Team All-District 20 plaudits since Admiral Schofield and Grant Williams both did so in 2018-19. Over the last 10 seasons (2014-24), Knecht, Schofield and Williams—the latter of whom also made the list in 2017-18—are the three Volunteers who claimed first-team plaudits.
The SEC Player of the Year, as voted by both the league's coaches and unanimously by the Associated Press, Knecht is averaging 21.1 points per game this year. He put up 25.5 points per contest in SEC play, including 26.5 per affair over the final 17 league outings.
A fifth-year guard from Thornton, Colo., Knecht has already picked up first team All-America designations from ESPN, Field of 68 and The Sporting News. He owns seven 30-point showings in his lone season as a Volunteer and currently ranks ninth on the program's single-season scoring list with 676 points.
Aidoo is averaging 11.9 points, 7.7 rebounds and 1.9 blocks per game this season, while shooting 52.9 percent from the floor. The junior forward earned First Team All-SEC honors from the Associated Press, as well as Second Team All-SEC and SEC All-Defensive Team distinctions from the league's coaches.
The Durham, N.C., native owns eight double-doubles in 2023-24, including a trio of 20-point, 10-rebound performances to tie for the third-most by a Volunteer in the last 20 seasons (2004-24). Aidoo finished top-four in SEC play in rebounds (8.3) and blocks (2.2) per game, as well as field-goal percentage (54.7), while notching 13.3 points per contest.
Knecht, Aidoo and sixth-ranked, second-seeded Tennessee (24-8, 14-4 SEC) open NCAA Tournament action Thursday at 9:20 p.m. versus No. 15-seeded Saint Peter's (19-13, 12-8 MAAC) at Spectrum Center in Charlotte, N.C., live on TNT.
