Knecht Tabbed to USBWA Oscar Robertson Trophy Watch List
February 27, 2024 | Men's Basketball
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Dalton Knecht of the University of Tennessee men's basketball team is among the choices for the Oscar Robertson Trophy and All-American Watch List, as announced Tuesday afternoon by the USBWA.
A fifth-year guard from Thornton, Colo., Knecht is one of 40 players nationally who made the cut. The list includes four SEC players, as Knecht is joined by Auburn's Johni Broome, Kentucky's Antonio Reeves and Alabama's Mark Sears.
Knecht is also on the Wooden Award Late Season Top 20 Watch List, as announced Jan. 30, and among the 30 members of the Naismith Trophy Midseason Team, as revealed Feb. 15.
A 6-foot-6, 213-pounder, Knecht is averaging 20.1 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game, while shooting 47.7 percent from the floor and 40.3 percent beyond the arc. In SEC play, he is putting up 24.4 points per contest, the third-best league scoring average (min. two games) of any player in America, regardless of conference.
The Julius Erving Small Forward of the Year Midseason Watch List designee, Knecht owns 13 20-point performances in his first season at Tennessee, including eight 25-point outings, five 30-point showings and a co-national-best three 35-point games. He has also scored 16-plus points in nine straight true games—the only ones he has played as a Volunteer—this season, a streak matched only at the Power Six level by Maryland's Jahmir Young.
Knecht and fourth-ranked Tennessee (21-6, 11-3 SEC) resume competition Wednesday at 7 p.m. against No. 11 Auburn in a top-15 showdown, live on ESPN2 from Food City Center.
