Causey Earns SEC Co-Pitcher of the Week Honors

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – After a dominant Tennessee debut, AJ Causey was named SEC Co-Pitcher of the Week, as announced by the league office of Monday afternoon.

The junior right-hander earned the win in the Vols' season-opening 6-2 victory over No. 18/21 Texas Tech on Friday night at the Shriners Children's College Showdown in Arlington, Texas. Causey pitched 4.2 scoreless innings in relief, allowing just two hits while striking out seven batters against a potent Red Raiders' lineup.

The Jacksonville State transfer retired 11 of the 12 batters he faced over the final four innings to lock up a ranked victory to start the season for the Big Orange.

UT returns to Knoxville to begin a 15-game homestand on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. against UNC Asheville. The Vols will also take on ETSU on Wednesday before hosting Albany for a weekend series starting on Friday evening.
