Jackson Named To Naismith Player Of The Year Midseason Watch List
February 13, 2024 | Women's Basketball
ATLANTA -- The 2023-24 Jersey Mike's Naismith Trophy Women's Player of the Year Midseason Watch List was announced on Tuesday, and Tennessee's Rickea Jackson is among the 30 players under consideration.
Â
Jackson, a 6-foot-2 fifth-year player from Detroit, Mich., is averaging 18.6 points and 8.1 rebounds in 15 games this season to rank No. 3 and No. 9, respectively, among SEC players. She has produced three double-doubles and double-figure scoring in all 15 games she's played and is shooting 46 percent from the field and 77 percent at the free throw line.
Â
Against Arkansas on Monday night, Jackson just missed her fourth double-double of the campaign, finishing with 21 points and nine boards along with two assists. She did, however, register her sixth 20+ scoring performance of the season, running her career total to 22 and ranking sixth all-time in Lady Vol history.
Â
With 19 points vs. Missouri, on Feb. 4, Jackson moved past 2,000 career points between her stints and Mississippi State and Tennessee. She now has 2,035 through Monday's games and stands just 50 points from tallying 1,000 during her second year on Rocky Top.
Â
Missing eight games earlier in the season due to injury, Jackson helped the Lady Vols rebound from a 4-4 mark during her absence to a 10-3 record since then. Overall, the Lady Vols are 11-4 with her in the lineup and stand in second place in the SEC standings at 15-8 overall and 8-3 against league foes.
Â
Jackson and her Big Orange teammates will return to action on Thursday, as they welcome No. 1/1 South Carolina to Food City Center for a 7 p.m. ET clash on ESPN.
