TRACK CENTRAL: New Mexico Collegiate Classic / South Carolina Invite

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Tennessee track & field is set for an electric weekend in the Land of Enchantment as the program's sprint group travels to Albuquerque for the New Mexico Collegiate Classic. The two-day indoor competition is set for Friday and Saturday, Feb. 2-3, inside the Albuquerque Convention Center.
Action from New Mexico begins Friday at 4 p.m. ET with the men's unseeded 200-meter and concludes Saturday at 4:35 p.m. with the women's 4x400-meter relay. The meet will be streamed live on FloTrack, and live results will be provided by Record Timing Results.
Additionally, Lady Vol pole vaulters Ellison Colarossi, Kendall Ford, Sarah Schmitt and Caroline Weems will compete Saturday morning in Columbia, South Carolina. The competition is set for 10 a.m. ET inside the Carolina Indoor Track & Field complex, with live results available via AdkinsTrak.
When available, the full meet schedule and heat sheets for both competitions can be viewed on Tennessee's 2023-24 track & field schedule page.
RANKINGS UPDATE: In the latest installment of the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) track & field rating index, the men of Tennessee cracked the top 25 after rising 16 spots to No. 23 in the country. Both squads are ranked for the first time this season, as the Lady Vols checked in at No. 17 nationally.
On the individual NCAA Division I event lists, Tennessee holds 11 marks that rank top 20 in the country this season. Senior sprint star Jacious Sears headlines the notable performances with the No. 2 60-meter dash (7.10) and No. 4 200-meter dash (22.88) in the NCAA, while fifth-year sprinter Emmanuel Bynum's 46.05 clocking in the 400-meter dash leads the SEC and ranks third in the country.
FANTASTIC FRESHMAN: Last week at Clemson's Bob Pollock Invitational, Tennessee freshman Zyaire Nuriddin made history as the fastest rookie indoor quarter-miler in school history. The Newark, Delaware, native posted a time of 46.54 in the 400-meter dash, topping the 24-year-old UT freshman record of 47.05 set by VFL Shannon Wheatley in 2000. His mark currently ranks second among NCAA Division I freshmen this season, seventh overall in the SEC and 15th in the country.
UP NEXT: Tennessee will compete in three meets next weekend on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 9-10. Distance runners will divide up for the David Hemery Valentine Invitational (Boston, Mass.) and Music City Challenge (Nashville), while the sprinters, hurdlers, jumpers and pole vaulters will return to Clemson for the Tiger Paw Invitational.
